No stranger to hard work and perseverance, Terriann Baker hit the fast track on her way from overlooked to placing second (2nd) on 2016 Digicel Rising Star and local superstar. A firm believer in the mantra “What is for you, will be for you,” She believes that this journey is meant for her and aids in shaping who she’s becoming.

Born and bred in Morvant Laventille, a community stained with an infamous reputation, Terriann has struggled with the stigma given to her unwillingly. This of course did not sway her determination for success. Excelling in her academics, participation in sports and other extracurricular activities kept her focused on the bigger picture. Her educational transitions in life took her from Lower Morvant Government Primary School to Bishop Anstey High School East, then BATCE form six and finally ended her secondary school education at St. George’s College.

Despite defying expectations and taking on the pressures that come with gaining an education, one thing was obvious, she had a voice. Music came naturally, being the youngest of three siblings that all sing.  Singing provided a necessary escape and she always looked forward to engaging the hearts and minds of an audience in song.

"I am always told 'What is for you, will be for you' and this was definitely for me"

“ I also have a burning passion for politics, justice and international affairs. As a result I attained my BSc in International Relations and I am currently pursuing my MSc. Life although difficult has not deterred me from attaining success in my studies and these steps have helped to shape who I am today. I plan to continue pursuing my studies and who knows maybe I will be Dr. Baker one day after I have attained my PhD.”
